Arjuna Vishada Yoga · The Yoga of Arjuna's Despair
Bhagavad Gita 1.3
Sanskrit
पश्यैतां पाण्डुपुत्राणामाचार्य महतीं चमूम् । व्यूढां द्रुपदपुत्रेण तव शिष्येण धीमता ॥1.3॥
Transliteration
paśyaitāṃ pāṇḍuputrāṇāmācārya mahatīṃ camūm | vyūḍhāṃ drupadaputreṇa tava śiṣyeṇa dhīmatā ‖1.3‖
Meaning
“Behold, O teacher, this mighty army of the sons of Pandu, arrayed by your own gifted pupil, the son of Drupada.”
Key learning
Duryodhana's first words to his teacher carry a sly dig. Scared people rarely speak cleanly, their fear leaks out sideways as blame, sarcasm, and pointed reminders of others' mistakes. The pettiness is just panic in disguise.
How to apply this today
When you feel the urge to drag up someone's old mistake in the middle of a problem, stop, that's usually fear, not strength. In an argument, "and remember when you..." means you've lost your footing. Name your worry to yourself plainly instead of leaking it as digs at others.
