Arjuna Vishada Yoga · The Yoga of Arjuna's Despair
Bhagavad Gita 1.14
Sanskrit
ततः श्वेतैर्हयैर्युक्ते महति स्यन्दने स्थितौ । माधवः पाण्डवश्चैव दिव्यौ शङ्खौ प्रदध्मतुः ॥1.14॥
Transliteration
tataḥ śvetairhayairyukte mahati syandane sthitau | mādhavaḥ pāṇḍavaścaiva divyau śaṅkhau pradadhmatuḥ ‖1.14‖
Meaning
“Then, seated in their magnificent chariot yoked with white horses, Krishna and Arjuna sounded their divine conches.”
Key learning
On the other side, Krishna and Arjuna sit in one chariot, wisdom and human effort together, and their conches are called "divine." This is the image at the heart of the Gita: skill and action are at their best when paired with something higher.
How to apply this today
Make sure your effort shares its ride with more than ego. Before a hard task, pair your skill with a value: "let this serve, not just win." The doctor who brings both competence and compassion is that two-in-one chariot. Your ability shines brightest when it's yoked to wisdom, not driving alone.
