Bhagavad Gita 3.41
Sanskrit
तस्मात्त्वमिन्द्रियाण्यादौ नियम्य भरतर्षभ । पाप्मानं प्रजहि ह्येनं ज्ञानविज्ञाननाशनम् ॥3.41॥
Transliteration
tasmāttvamindriyāṇyādau niyamya bharatarṣabha | pāpmānaṃ prajahi hyenaṃ jñānavijñānanāśanam ‖3.41‖
Meaning
“Therefore, O best of the Bharatas, controlling the senses first, slay this sinful thing, the destroyer of knowledge and realisation.”
Key learning
The smart strategy is to control your senses first, because they're the easiest part to manage, and then tackle the deeper desire inside. Order matters. Trying to fight a deep craving head-on while leaving temptation all around you is a losing battle.
How to apply this today
Start any self-control effort by removing temptation, not by relying on willpower in the hard moment. Quitting sugar starts at the store by not buying it, not in the kitchen at midnight. Better phone habits start with leaving the phone out of the bedroom. Set up your surroundings first, then work on the inner craving.
