Bhagavad Gita 3.40
Sanskrit
इन्द्रियाणि मनो बुद्धिरस्याधिष्ठानमुच्यते । एतैर्विमोहयत्येष ज्ञानमावृत्य देहिनम् ॥3.40॥
Transliteration
indriyāṇi mano buddhirasyādhiṣṭhānamucyate | etairvimohayatyeṣa jñānamāvṛtya dehinam ‖3.40‖
Meaning
“The senses, the mind, and the intellect are said to be its seat; through these it deludes the embodied one, covering knowledge.”
Key learning
Desire hides in three places: your senses, your feelings and imagination, and your reasoning mind. The most dangerous one is the reasoning mind. When desire takes that over, it stops fighting your logic and starts using your logic to talk you into things.
How to apply this today
Guard all three, especially your thinking. Watch what you keep looking at, because what you see often you start to crave. Catch yourself daydreaming about doing the thing before you do it. And question your excuses: "I deserve this," "just once," "everyone does it" are cravings talking in your own voice. The riskiest moment is when the craving starts to sound completely reasonable.
