Meaning
“As fire is covered by smoke, as a mirror by dust, as an embryo by the womb, so is knowledge covered by this. Knowledge is covered, O son of Kunti, by this constant enemy of the wise, this insatiable fire of desire.”
Key learning
Desire clouds your clear thinking, but not all cravings are equally deep. Some are like light smoke over a fire that a single pause clears away. Some are like dust on a mirror that needs regular wiping. Some are buried deep and only fade with long, patient effort. One enemy, but different levels.
How to apply this today
Match your effort to how deep the craving really goes. A quick urge to snap back or buy something on impulse clears with a 60-second pause. Habits like endless scrolling or comfort-eating need steady practice over weeks. Deep needs like always wanting approval take years and often some help. Most change attempts fail because people expect a quick fix where slow work is needed.
