Bhagavad Gita 3.28

Sanskrit

तत्त्ववित्तु महाबाहो गुणकर्मविभागयोः । गुणा गुणेषु वर्तन्त इति मत्वा न सज्जते ॥3.28॥

Transliteration

tattvavittu mahābāho guṇakarmavibhāgayoḥ | guṇā guṇeṣu vartanta iti matvā na sajjate ‖3.28‖

Meaning

But the knower of the truth about the divisions of guna and action, O mighty-armed one, understanding that gunas merely act upon gunas, remains unattached.

Key learning

A wise person sees that many clashes are just patterns bumping into patterns, like a habit meeting a situation, while their awareness simply watches. Seeing it clearly loosens its grip, the way knowing how a magic trick works breaks the spell. You only get tangled up when you mistake the reaction for who you really are.

How to apply this today

When things get tense, reframe it as patterns meeting patterns. A coworker's anger hitting your defensiveness is two old habits colliding; watch the collision instead of getting swept into it, and you'll have more ways to respond. A craving meeting an ad is just a trigger pulling a habit. Do this: step back and watch the reaction instead of becoming it.
