Meaning

The intellect that knows action and renunciation, what ought to be done and what ought not, fear and fearlessness, bondage and liberation, that intellect, O Partha, is sattvic. The intellect by which one wrongly understands dharma and adharma, what should and should not be done, that is rajasic. The intellect which, enveloped in darkness, regards adharma as dharma and sees all things reversed, that is tamasic.
