Bhagavad Gita 1.1
Sanskrit
धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे समवेता युयुत्सवः । मामकाः पाण्डवाश्चैव किमकुर्वत सञ्जय ॥1.1॥
Transliteration
dharmakṣetre kurukṣetre samavetā yuyutsavaḥ | māmakāḥ pāṇḍavāścaiva kimakurvata sañjaya ‖1.1‖
Meaning
“Dhritarashtra said: O Sanjaya, gathered on the field of dharma, the field of the Kurus, eager to fight, what did my sons and the sons of Pandu do?”
Key learning
The Gita opens on a battlefield, but it's really about life. The blind king already splits everyone into "my people" and "the others", and that bias clouds how he sees things. The quiet lesson: the messy, ordinary ground you stand on is exactly where you grow into a better person.
How to apply this today
Notice when you take a side just because someone is "yours." In a fight between your kid and a teacher, ask what really happened before defending. At work, don't excuse a teammate's mistake only because they're on your team. And treat your real life, your job, home, city, as the place you grow, not somewhere to escape.
