Meaning

Some yogis offer sacrifice to the gods; others offer sacrifice itself into the fire of Brahman. Some offer hearing and the senses into the fires of restraint; others offer sound and the sense-objects into the fires of the senses. Others offer all actions of the senses and of the life-breath into the fire of the yoga of self-control, kindled by knowledge. Others offer wealth, austerity, and yoga as sacrifice; ascetics of rigid vows offer study and knowledge. Some offer the outbreath into the inbreath and the inbreath into the outbreath, restraining the courses of breath, intent on pranayama. Others, regulating food, offer the life-breaths into the life-breaths. All these are knowers of sacrifice, whose sins are destroyed by sacrifice.
