Bhagavad Gita 3.9
Sanskrit
यज्ञार्थात्कर्मणोऽन्यत्र लोकोऽयं कर्मबन्धनः । तदर्थं कर्म कौन्तेय मुक्तसङ्गः समाचर ॥3.9॥
Transliteration
yajñārthātkarmaṇo'nyatra loko'yaṃ karmabandhanaḥ | tadarthaṃ karma kaunteya muktasaṅgaḥ samācara ‖3.9‖
Meaning
“The world is bound by action, except action done as sacrifice. Therefore, O son of Kunti, perform action for that purpose, free from attachment.”
Key learning
Work that you do only to get something for yourself keeps you stuck. But work you offer up as a gift, done to help and serve, sets you free. The task can be exactly the same. What changes is why you do it.
How to apply this today
Try this for a week: before a big task, quietly say to yourself, "May this help someone." A nurse, a coder, a parent cooking dinner can all do this. The work stays the same, but it stops feeling like a chain and starts feeling meaningful. Do this: offer each task before you start it.
