Bhagavad Gita 3.4-5

Transliteration

na karmaṇāmanārambhānnaiṣkarmyaṃ puruṣo'śnute | na ca saṃnyasanādeva siddhiṃ samadhigacchati ‖3.4‖ na hi kaścitkṣaṇamapi jātu tiṣṭhatyakarmakṛt | kāryate hyavaśaḥ karma sarvaḥ prakṛtijairguṇaiḥ ‖3.5‖

Meaning

Not by abstaining from action does one attain freedom from action, nor by mere renunciation does one attain perfection. No one can remain without action even for a moment; everyone is helplessly driven to act by the qualities born of nature.

Key learning

You cannot escape action by doing nothing. Even sitting still, you are breathing, thinking, and choosing, so action never really stops. The real question is never whether to act, but what kind of action you take, thoughtful or careless, on purpose or by drift. 'Waiting until I feel ready' is itself a choice, the choice to avoid.

How to apply this today

Stop telling yourself you will start once you feel motivated, because you are already acting by default. The writer waiting for inspiration should just sit down and write daily. The job seeker who feels 'not ready' should send a few imperfect applications this week. The unhappy spouse unsure what to do should book the counseling session. Pick deliberate action over drifting, because those are your only two options.
