Bhagavad Gita 3.36
Sanskrit
अथ केन प्रयुक्तोऽयं पापं चरति पूरुषः । अनिच्छन्नपि वार्ष्णेय बलादिव नियोजितः ॥3.36॥
Transliteration
atha kena prayukto'yaṃ pāpaṃ carati pūruṣaḥ | anicchannapi vārṣṇeya balādiva niyojitaḥ ‖3.36‖
Meaning
“Arjuna said: But impelled by what does a person commit sin, O Varshneya, even unwillingly, as if driven by force?”
Key learning
Arjuna asks a question we all feel: why do we do wrong things even when we don't want to, as if something is pushing us? Anyone who has broken their own promise to themselves knows this feeling. The verse takes that struggle seriously instead of just calling it weakness.
How to apply this today
When you break your own rules, get curious instead of just feeling guilty. After slipping up, ask what was really driving you in that moment: what triggered it, how you felt, what story you told yourself. Understanding the pattern helps you stop repeating it, while shame alone just makes it happen again.
