Bhagavad Gita 2.48

Sanskrit

योगस्थः कुरु कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा धनञ्जय । सिद्ध्यसिद्ध्योः समो भूत्वा समत्वं योग उच्यते ॥2.48॥

Transliteration

yogasthaḥ kuru karmāṇi saṅgaṃ tyaktvā dhanañjaya | siddhyasiddhyoḥ samo bhūtvā samatvaṃ yoga ucyate ‖2.48‖

Meaning

Established in yoga, perform actions, abandoning attachment, O Dhananjaya, balanced in success and failure. Such evenness of mind is called yoga.

Key learning

Real balance means staying steady whether you succeed or fail. This calm, even mind is the heart of yoga, more than any posture or breathing exercise. It means spiritual practice belongs in everyday places like your job, home, and tough decisions, not just quiet retreats. And notice the order: get steady first, then act from that steadiness.

How to apply this today

Each evening, recall your best win and worst setback of the day. Sit with each for a moment and notice how your body reacts, then aim to respond to both the same way. If a project goes great, celebrate briefly and get back to the work. If it flops, note it and get back to the work. Train your face and your heart to stay level either way.
