Bhagavad Gita 2.12

Sanskrit

न त्वेवाहं जातु नासं न त्वं नेमे जनाधिपाः । न चैव न भविष्यामः सर्वे वयमतः परम् ॥2.12॥

Transliteration

na tvevāhaṃ jātu nāsaṃ na tvaṃ neme janādhipāḥ | na caiva na bhaviṣyāmaḥ sarve vayamataḥ param ‖2.12‖

Meaning

Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor these kings; nor will any of us ever cease to be hereafter.

Key learning

You, and everyone, exist in essence, and always will. The body changes, but the real "you" isn't something that was switched on or can be switched off.

How to apply this today

When you fear endings, a goodbye, aging, death, let this steady you: the deepest part of you isn't on the clock. It won't make loss painless, but it can drain the terror out of it.
