Transliteration

niyatasya tu saṃnyāsaḥ karmaṇo nopapadyate | mohāttasya parityāgastāmasaḥ parikīrtitaḥ ‖18.7‖ duḥkhamityeva yatkarma kāyakleśabhayāttyajet | sa kṛtvā rājasaṃ tyāgaṃ naiva tyāgaphalaṃ labhet ‖18.8‖ kāryamityeva yatkarma niyataṃ kriyate'rjuna | saṅgaṃ tyaktvā phalaṃ caiva sa tyāgaḥ sāttviko mataḥ ‖18.9‖

Meaning

The renunciation of obligatory action is not proper; its abandonment through delusion is declared tamasic. One who abandons action as painful, from fear of bodily trouble, performs rajasic tyaga and gains not the fruit of relinquishment. When obligatory action is done, O Arjuna, simply because it ought to be done, abandoning attachment and fruit, that relinquishment is deemed sattvic.
