Bhagavad Gita 2.61

Sanskrit

तानि सर्वाणि संयम्य युक्त आसीत मत्परः । वशे हि यस्येन्द्रियाणि तस्य प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठिता ॥2.61॥

Transliteration

tāni sarvāṇi saṃyamya yukta āsīta matparaḥ | vaśe hi yasyendriyāṇi tasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā ‖2.61‖

Meaning

Having restrained them all, one should sit integrated, intent on Me; for one whose senses are under control, wisdom is firmly established.

Key learning

After the warning comes the method, with a key new piece: aim your whole self at the highest. Just blocking the senses is a losing battle; instead, give your whole life a center to organize around. Energy you can't suppress can be redirected, the way a scattered crowd needs not a cage but a shared purpose. Self-control turns out to be a side effect of pointing yourself at something higher.

How to apply this today

Give your discipline a positive center, not just a list of don'ts. Turn every quit list into a serve list: instead of no phone, no sugar, no laziness, say these hours go to the work, the family, the practice I care about, because organized energy doesn't leak the way caged energy does. Start each day with one minute of clear intention before any screen, since the first thing you point your mind at tends to shape the day. When a habit battle keeps stalling, ask what you're really centered on.
